The Texas economy is the second largest in the nation and 15th in the world by GDP. It is the largest export state in the US and grosses approximately $100 billion dollars a year from international trade (1). The port of Houston is the largest port in the United States measured by foreign waterborne tonnage and 2nd in total tonnage (2). Texas has 1/3 of the nations known oil reserves with roughly 8 billion barrels and additionally is the largest producer of wind power in the nation. It is home to 56 of the Fortune 500 and 5 of the Fortune 50, more than any other state (1). Corporations will continue to move to Texas because of the favorable business/tax climate and educated population. These markets are desirable due to economic balance, affordable home prices, world-class healthcare and climate. Between July 2007-2008, there was more domestic migration into Texas (144,000) than total foreign immigration (92,000) into the US (3).
